Our artist Jonathan Barrantes is born in Costa Rica and started crafting wood when he was only 12 years old. He has created many sculptures or pieces of art for other dreamseekers. His workshop is located in Tres Rios, Cartago among the volcanic hills and lush mountains of Costa Rica, 12 km east of our capital San Jose.

We only offer you locally sourced certified wood by the Costa Rican government of which all laws are respected and complied with. Therefore availability of our exotic wood can vary in season. At the moment we offer teak, cypress, cedar, melina beech, pochote and guanacaste. All types of wood we use are durable and highly esteemed for carving.

Teak is a tropical tree that produces durable, beautiful hardwood for use in furniture and boats among other things.
Pricing/Availability: Teak is one of the most valuable of all hardwoods due to its strength and durability. Known for its weather-proof qualities. Costa Rica's physical climate and geography are perfectly suited to growing Teak – so much so that Teak grown in Costa Rica grows more rapidly and stronger than Teak grown in Southeast Asia. Rot Resistance: Teak has been considered by many to be the gold standard for decay resistance, and its heartwood is rated as very durable. Pochote (Bombacopsis quinata) is a remarkably stable hardwood similar in working properties to Spanish cedar.
Pricing/Availability: In Central America Pochote is considered to be madera preciosaor “precious wood” or sacred wood. It is one of the most affordable woods in Costa Rica because of its magical ability to grow. Rot resistance: The heartwood is rated as durable in its resistance to white-rot fungi, very durable in resistance to brown rots. Wood of pochote is red on exposure, as opposed to the dark grains of teak. It is used to make furniture, cabinets, window and door frames and for making veneer. Guanacaste is a unique Costa Rican light to medium brown wood, sometimes with a reddish hue. It has a unique appearance and texture, which is mostly due to its very large pores, which give it a somewhat coarse-textured, almost fibrous look
